An awful lot has been said about Hendra virus over the past few months and years, but to date the news has not been positive, but mostly about more outbreaks, deaths, uncertainty and fear. According to Biosecurity Queensland, every animal that tests positive will be put down, even if it looks like getting over it. Their policy seems to be “if in doubt, chuck it out”.

Hendra virus is a relatively rare condition and is a?notifiable disease, so if you suspect that an animal is affected you are obliged to contact your local vet, who will then contact Biosecurity Queensland. Hendra virus, as current understanding goes, is transmissable from horses to humans via contact with body fluids, i.e. saliva, mucus, blood, urine etc., so caution to avoid this should provide adequate protection for yourself.

There is a ray of sunshine. In my experience, as a Chiropractor ane Equine Specialist, over the past nearly 30 years I have learnt a lot about the nature of “disease” and how to deal with it. One of the first things we must acknowledge is that we can’t poison ourselves to health. We must be very careful, in our enthusiasm, not to create a new problem or a worse problem.

As I learn more and more I find I can use less ans less to make a positive change. Samuel Hahnemann discovered this concept over 200 years ago as he developed the principles of homeopathy. In saying this we have had a great deal of success with “energetic remedies”; clearing snake-bite in dogs and Parvo virus in pups as a couple of examples.

Untried at this stage I am producing “energetic Hendra virus remedies” for those people who wish to safeguard their valuable horses. The principle is to alert the body’s immune system to the possible contact with the virus so it is able to respond appropriately. Due to the nature of these preparations there is no risk of a negative reaction and every chance of a safe and positive outcome.

Adequate instructions for the use and care of these remedies are provided with the preparations.

I acknowledge the severity and risk associated with Hendra and my motive is to be proactive rather than reactive, and save a lot of lives.

Responsibility is our “ability to respond”. To be able to respond there first has to be recognition that there is something to respond to. The thing that makes it hard for us to recognise that our horses have an issue that we need to respond to is the fact that they are so willing to please us that a lot of horse people wouldn’t notice unless they found that their horse had a leg missing.

I was recently observing at a horse school and noticed that as hard as those horses were trying to get it right, there wasn’t one horse expressing more than 15% of their physical potential. Now assessing their physical potential is a fairly nebulous measure it does give us a?clue of their ability to perform, and also a measure of our ability to influence the situation. Some of these horses were expressing less than 1% of their physical potential, and that was expressed externally by their failure to relax onto the bit, by their high head posture, their head shaking, their inability to collect, their wringing tail under pressure and many more expressions of extreme discomfort.

Horses love to perform, they love to work, & they love to please. We owe it to them to learn to be more observant and in tune with them. If a horse is not performing the way we would like or expect it is generally not because they are rebellious (although this does happen), they either don’t understand the question or it’s causing them considerable discomfort.

Learning “Innate Healing for Horses” is a perfect way to quickly and regularly assess the wellbeing of your mount, and restore them to harmony and balance quickly and easily, without having to have a degree in this therapy or that treatment. Recognizing and utilizing the bodies own innate capacity to heal and repair (without interference) would be one of the greatest gifts you could give your equine friend.

Enjoy!

What can we say ……. it was a great two days. We had 14 participants and checked and cleared over 20 horses in that time. We started Friday morning in a class type situation to explain the philosophy behind what we do. Without the basic foundation we can tend to revert back to our previous understanding and resort to applying therapy to symptoms, or worse. One comment was “Why wasn’t I told this years ago?” When we have a sound background it takes the guess out of what is happening and our decisions follow a logical sequence. After lunch we started working on horses. Just about everyone was keen to see how it all came together. We worked with horses until 9.30 pm.

I must mention that the facilities at the Polocrosse ground were ideal, the clubhouse was great to meet in and eat in, and of course the stables were great, with lights in the umpires stables where we did most of the work. A very big THANK YOU to Warwick Polocrosse and, in particular, Les Fraser for his help.

Saturday we reviewed what we had covered and “cleared” more horses. We wound up about 3.00 pm as some had to get away, then we “cleared ” some of the people to help them function better and for them to feel a little of how the horses were feeling. We finished with horses about 5.30 pm.

Some of the feedback we have had since has been great. A number of the participants have been getting really positive results working at home. Like any other new skill, the more you use it and the harder you work at it the better you get. Some of the things we worked on with the horses were; herbicide & pesticide poison, parasites, bacterial infections, viral infections (including EI), Kidney and Lung infections, Queensland Itch, Physical trauma, emotional trauma, jaw-joint problems, Q Fever and many more. These are the everyday stressors that are pulling your equine friends down, and if you don’t have the skills to identify them specifically, you don’t even know that your horse is suffering.

We look forward to another good time at Yeppoon Showground on March 26 & 27. Hope to meet you there.

Look under “Future Plans” for future workshops.

One of the reasons I want people to learn this stuff is so they can follow up. I worked on a 3 year old race filly that was injured in barrier trials, last week. We cleared a lot of things and got her body so that it could heal and repair and set another time for one week. None of us are God and we aren’t going to clear everything in 1/2 an hour or an hour, but we can begin the process and then we need to follow up. Why do people go to a Chiropractor as a regular maintenance thing….because it works! Why not give your horse the same chance? When we find a problem, turning them out in the paddock isn’t going to fix it. We work hard on some people and as soon as they don’t feel the symptom they say “I’ll see how it goes.” You can guess how it goes….the same way as it was before they came in. It’s a little bit like riding a highly strung Arabian, 2 steps forward and one step back, or that is how it was described to me.

To learn to clear your own horses, and then do it on a regular basis, not only will you get better at it but your horses will perform better than your wildest expectations. The three rules of success; Follow Up, Follow Up, Follow Up.

I was checking Standardbred gelding today and a remark was made about his dull and bleached coat. We checked and cleared his hydration and then we checked his mineral balance …. which was not ideal. I made the suggestion that the trainer should include Celtic Sea Salt in his diet, which he said he had done only in the past few days. Then he showed me the supplement that he was giving the horse.

Sure, it has a little “Celtic Sea Salt” tag on the tin to give it an air of respectability, but the rest of it was some man-made formula.

Blood plasma and sea water are very much the same composition, we are bathed internally in this salty solution. When we are stressed they pump in saline solution (salty water). Most of the salt we use today is 98% Sodium Chloride. All the other elements have been stripped out and used somewhere else, and we are left with this “white death”. When we use salt to maintain electrolyte balance we need to use salt that God created for us, not some academic formula.

Unless you have the skills to determine the usefulness of a supplement I suggest the best choices are: (1) Celtic Sea Salt. It is about 84% sodium chloride and the other 16% is made up of essential macro and trace minerals, the way God would have it. (2) Coloured rock salt, I mean the really big hard chunks of pink rock. A reasonable test is if it has a good deal of colour then it probably has a good mineral balance. If it is white then probably most of the critical mineral balance has been lost.

My rule of thumb is; “If it comes the way God made it there’s a fair chance that it’s OK.? The more man mucks with it, the worse it gets”.

By the same token, I like oats as raw grain, or sprouted.? Not steamed, rolled, or otherwise cooked an made into pellets etc. Every time it is heated it is losing energy.

Good question!? How do most people tell when there horse is not well?? In my experience it is only recognised when there is obvious lameness, tenderness, aggrevated behaviour or failing to maintain condition etc.

There are really neat and subtle ways of asking your horse if everything is OK. Muscle testing (kinesiology) over the last 40 or so years has come out on its own as being a consistantly reliable way of determining just what is going on. When we test (or challange) a muscle we are actually asking the subconcience mind just what is going on. Most of my testing I try and do through the owner or trainer of the horse so they have an appreciation of what we are finding. By them holding one hand on the horse we test the responsiveness of the other arm as we challenge various areas of the body. For this to be effective both parties need to be in fairly good balance to be able to detect an error in the subject horse. One of the things most people have problems with is being in balance minerally, but eating Celtic sea salt on a regular basis will bring you back into balance that is a whole topic on its own.

This morning, at the Karara Sheep Dog Trials, I was asked what I knew about hip dysplasia. My response was to determine what they understood about hip dysplasia. I suggested we have a look. A young bitch pup about 8 months old with obvious pain at both hips and apparent muscle wasting around the hips.

Why? As a Chiropractor my focus is on interference to communication between the brain and the body and the most obvious stressor I could find was an unidentified virus. We cleared the memory of the virus and adjusted the spine. No pain! Didn’t have to do anything to the hips, the brain will fix that. There may be other stressors to deal with at a later date to maintain the correction. This is simple stuff – not rocket science, but we’ve been duped by the scientific community to focus on the symptom picture rather than the correction.

Welcome to my thoughts. As a human Chiropractor and an equine Chiropractor I am privileged with more information than if I was only adjusting horses or only adjusting people, and I can correlate my findings and learn by these combined experiences. With few exceptions we can apply what we learn from one, to the other, and vice versa. What I find in people, I can mostly expect to find in horses; and what I find in horses will probably be found in people.

It’s the start of Spring here in Australia, and in south-east Queensland we have been blessed with a couple of inches of rain; after a very cold end of winter with frost after frost for weeks on end (others might think that’s mild – its all relative). After years of drought and less than ideal summer rains we went into winter with very little feed generally, but we now have a little green pick coming through, which is really wonderful. If we can get 3 or 4 inches of rain over the next few weeks it will keep the feed growing into the warmer months.

Like I said, a month ago we were just coming out of weeks of severe frosts and there was nothing on the ground, but as soon as anything wants to grow some ‘turkey’ wants to kill it. They worry that we don’t have enough to feed our expanding population, but they spray herbicide on their farms and gardens like it was lolly water. It’s been quoted that on the Darling Downs (about 200 Km radius from Toowoomba) they use 7,000 tonnes of herbicide a year. In my estimation that’s about a freight train load 2 miles long. Why would anyone want to poison the very home they live in and all the people and animals as well? It’s not only the farmers, but the gardeners, and the local government authorities are all to blame. Perhaps they believe it’s harmless to humans and animals.

As a Chiropractor I correct Vertebral Subluxations. Vertebral Subluxations are minor misalignments of the spine, but are the greatest cause of nerve interference between the brain and the body, and the body and the brain; and are thus the greatest cause of dis-ease on the planet. Anything we are exposed to that we cannot adapt to, almost instantly will cause a vertebral subluxation. Most people relate vertebral subluxations to accidents and injuries but in my experience that would be less than 1% of all cases. What else, you might ask; … anything, physical, emotional, chemical, electromagnetic, geopathic, or astrological.

Herbicide poison is an anything. One of the worst! You don?t even have to use it yourself, it travels miles in the air on a hot windy day and has been reported to cause damage to crops and people over 10 miles away.

Herbicide poison is singularly the greatest causes of back pain on the planet. People or horses or dogs with pain you can almost guarantee have had contact with herbicide. Doesn’t matter what type of herbicide, they are all into destroying life.

What else? Herbicide poison is a major cause of flu type symptoms. Often called ‘Summer Flu’ as they didn’t take the care to find out that it wasn’t a virus.

Herbicide poison also causes Migraine headaches; Gastric disturbance, Vomiting and Diarrhoea; Asthma; Heart problems, Depression and Cancer, to name just a few.

Those symptoms are nothing to the constant insult of interference to the nerve system from the vertebral subluxation caused by the failure to adapt to the poison. And that is every case. If you think you weren’t poisoned it?s because you are already so full of it that your body doesn’t tell you any more when its getting crook ’cause it knows you probably wont listen anyway. But if your horse is crook he’s not going to perform as well. He might hump up when you girth him, he might sag in the loins when you settle into the saddle, he may just be lame, he may have a cough or a temperature, or any number of other symptoms.

The trick to correcting herbicide poison is (1) know that’s what your dealing with; (2) clear the memory from the body so it doesn’t continue to behave that way; (3) correct the vertebral subluxation. Get any of those steps wrong and you still haven?t cleared the problem.

I have an issue with therapy of any kind. Trying to treat a symptom without fully understanding the problem, to me, is an exercise in futility. Did you ever see the movie ‘Groundhog Day.’ You get up in the morning and everything is the same, … until you learn from your experience. That was my Chiropractic practice when I first graduated. Every person or horse I adjusted, I had to do the same as last time, until we asked why is this so, and when you ask questions you get answers, not always from where you expect, but leave yourself open and they will come. My biggest regret is all the answers that I never asked the question for and didn’t recognize the answer when it slapped me in the forehead.

I can only adjust so many horses in a year, but if I can teach 20 people each week to do the same as I do (I can’t teach you to be a licensed Chiropractor, but I can teach you how to clear the memory of many things, before you call the vet) we can create a legacy for horses for generations to come.
